US Men’s Team News Selection Tour Events = Great Experience for Younger Players

A reminder to male players eligible to represent the US: the team selection ‘tour’ is still going strong! The next event is April 7-10 in Richmond, VA: US Team Selection Tour event #5 (see full calendar below).
This tour of events serves as a precursor to the 2005 Men’s World Team Championships, set for December 8-14 in Islamabad, Pakistan.
However, coach Chris Walker wants to remind players that anyone eligible to represent the US in international competition—ie, any male US citizen and USSRA member in good standing—can play the tour events.
“This is a great opportunity for younger players to get match experience,” says Walker. “This is not a closed, nor an elitist thing. The events are open to club players: juniors, college players, etc.”
Players do not need to compete in every event on the tour either. “You don’t even have to have a goal of being on the team; the goal is match experience, something that has been lacking for US teams in the past,” says Walker candidly. Eligible players may, for example, wish to enter the event local to their hometown or college, simply for the chance to spar against some top-notch competitors.
The remaining events for 2005 are as follows. And for more information, including to sign up for the events, please contact US Men’s coach Chris Walker at Chris@Walker.net.
