World No. 1 Carol Owens has announced her retirement from the sport after a 15-year career on the WISPA tour. The 32-year-old from Auckland, NZ, has been contemplating her future since winning the Women's World Open title in Hong Kong in December. That win marked her 50th appearance in a WISPA final and her second world title, achieved while holding the World No. 1 position.

"Being No. 1 in the world is as good as it gets, and I have no regrets about calling it a day," said Owens.

Stay tuned for the complete story in the upcoming February 2004 edition of Squash Magazine, including full reports on the World Women's and World Men's Opens.
