Just days before the 2003 US National Doubles Championships were to start, Denver was hit with the storm of the century. The blizzard of 2003 dumped more than three feet of snow in the Denver area in 48 hours. Only one other storm, in 1913, discarded more snow in one storm. The tournament directors contemplated postponing the squash event until a later date, but ultimately were able to hold the event with a one-day postponement. As the players wandered in on Friday, their matches were rescheduled on the spot, and by the end of that day it was clear that the event would be finished by Sunday (the original final day). In order for this event to finish in only two days all the consolation matches had to be cancelled.
